The Ruby Orchard

January// Sat on a plane, departing my homeland and family after a wonderful, winter wonderland Christmas, what did 2013 have in store? Would we stay in SA longer than the year we had initially planned? In January 2103 I really had no idea how the family business would morph into what it has. February// A shop that makes people talk, a shop that feels different, a shop whose interior surprises.

How would we create this? Erecting rusty corrugated roof sheeting of course! With some pinterest inspiration a large part of the shop was changed! I had combined feelings. Have a read – Brought in Vs South African Proudly. Paper Moon, Place Settings and everything Wrapped Up made the short list! Signs and logo designed, The Ruby Orchard was born.

We asked friends, family, businesses and colleagues to our first big ‘do’. Night was a such successful Our standard start! May// A vacation back to the united kingdom always inspires. I wish I could ship containers filled with products from my favourite designers and places. We will keep working to offer you products you do not see somewhere else!

My inspiration often comes from English country cottages, Emma Bridgewater, Cath Kidston, Laura Ashley and other beautiful British designers. We started searching for other items that needed restoring and found a hidden Midlands talent to upcycle for us. In June the furniture is at the workshop. Oh yee of little faith! August// Our blog was born in August and told the storyplot of how everything began. Nicola Tweed joined The Ruby Orchard team – she sells too, searches for products, assists and blogs with marketing.

August noticed us hunting marketplaces for new and unique products – Rondavel soaps, Oak & Willow indications and beautiful Token Ceramics came on board. September// We jumped at the chance of a last minute stand at your garden & Leisure show in Pietermaritzburg. An exhausting 3 days, but so worth meeting so many clients. Our framing business now shut the old framing workshop was stripped and completely decorated to transform The Ruby Orchard into a straight lighter, brighter and airier space!

October// With Nicola up to speed we going to Durban for some creative brainstorming with Nadia Van der Mescht. Armed with a bag of marketing strategies we’ve strike the net! November// We have been featured – Garden & Home described us as the ‘New kid on the decor store block’. Check our press page for our other blog and press features. November also saw our second big event of the year – Christmas shopping evening. Wine, mince pies and shopping, Many thanks to everyone who supported us.

Shoppers came from all over the Country. Our online sales began to grow, we’ve not been able to stock the shop quick enough! 12 months We’ve leant so much for next. This year and to those who have supplied us A huge thanks to everyone who has supported us. Here’s for an equally extraordinary 2014!

Can you write off charitable services on federal government tax forms? Charitable efforts are deducted on Schedule A (Itemized Deductions). Generally deductible charitable contributions include property or money and out-of-pocket expenditures as a volunteer. The value of your energy or services isn’t deductible. You also can’t deduct the worthiness of income lost as long as you’re working as an unpaid volunteer.

Are donations to sports booster clubs taxes deductible? The booster club can tell you if they’re a qualified charitable organization and if your donation to it will be a qualified deductible amount on your federal 1040 tax return. Because if it is deductible they must offer you a written acknowledgment of the deductible amount that you’d be able use on the plan A itemized deductions of your 1040 taxes form.

How will a taxes deductible slide from Goodwill work come tax time? I keep a duplicate of the receipt with my return–the information continues on the taxes form that handles charitable efforts and the type of contribution. It generally does not have to be attached to a come back or anything. Just, if you are audited, you have to produce documentation for the amounts that you claimed as a deduction based on contribution.
